As a vegan, I am very aware of what ingredients go into my food and I am therefore an avid 'food label' reader. The ingredients are often vague as they use an E number, making it difficult to know exactly what has been used to produce the specific food.
Luckily the SA Vegan Society has put together a comprehensive list for E labelling, making it much easier to see which products are animal-free and which are not.
You might be wondering what these E numbers are? Well here's the answer:
'E numbers are simply artificial food additives, like colourants, flavourants , antioxidants, preservatives , stabilisers, thickeners etc.'
'....... unfortunately they are not all free of animal products.' - The Vegan Society.
